Tata Punch Becomes India’s Best-Selling Car in June 2026, Dzire Slips to Third
Tata Punch has emerged as India’s best-selling passenger vehicle in June 2026, overtaking the long-time leader Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The compact SUV recorded 21,006 unit sales, registering an impressive 101% year-on-year growth and highlighting the continued shift in buyer preference towards SUVs.
The latest sales figures also underline a strong month for Tata Motors, with the Tata Nexon securing the second position on the sales chart.
Tata Punch Tops June 2026 Sales Chart
Tata Motors sold 21,006 units of the Punch in June 2026, compared to 10,446 units in the same month last year.
The impressive growth helped the Punch climb from fourth position in May to become the country’s highest-selling car in June.
The success of the Punch reflects the increasing popularity of compact SUVs among Indian buyers, thanks to their combination of practicality, ground clearance and value for money.
Tata Nexon Secures Second Spot
The Tata Nexon also delivered a strong performance during June.
The compact SUV registered 18,335 units, recording a 58% year-on-year growth, making it the second best-selling passenger vehicle in the country.
With both the Punch and Nexon occupying the top two positions, Tata Motors enjoyed one of its strongest monthly performances in recent years.
Maruti Dzire Drops to Third
After leading the sales chart in May 2026, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire slipped to third position in June.
The sedan recorded 17,899 unit sales, although it still posted a healthy 16% year-on-year growth.
Despite losing the top spot, the Dzire continues to remain one of India’s highest-selling passenger cars.
Maruti Continues Strong Presence
While Tata claimed the top two positions, Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the overall rankings with multiple models in the top ten.
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR secured fourth place with 16,952 units, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga at 16,111 units.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift completed the top six with 15,215 units sold during the month.
Mahindra Scorpio Remains Strong
The only Mahindra model in the top ten was the Mahindra Scorpio-N.
The SUV recorded 14,097 unit sales, registering a 10.65% year-on-year increase and continuing its consistent performance in the midsize SUV segment.
Fronx, Baleno and Venue Complete the Top 10
The remaining models in the June 2026 top ten included:
- Maruti Suzuki Fronx – 13,135 units
- Maruti Suzuki Baleno – 12,488 units
- Hyundai Venue – 10,776 units
These models continued to register healthy demand across their respective segments.

Tata Motors’ performance, with the Punch and Nexon occupying the top two positions, reflects the company’s strong momentum in the SUV segment.
