Tata Safari EV to Launch by Diwali 2026 with AWD, 600 km Range & Premium Features
Tata Safari EV is set to make its debut in India around Diwali 2026, marking a major milestone for Tata Motors. Positioned as the brand’s flagship electric SUV, it will also become Tata’s first three-row EV, expanding its electric portfolio across the entire SUV lineup.
Launch Timeline and Positioning
Tata Motors is expected to begin production of the Safari EV around August 2026, with market launch aligned with the festive season demand.
The Safari EV will sit above the Tata Harrier EV and will serve as the top-tier electric offering in Tata’s lineup.
Platform and Powertrain
The Safari EV will be based on Tata’s acti.ev+ architecture, shared with the Harrier EV. Unlike a ground-up EV, it will be an ICE-to-EV adaptation, allowing faster development and rollout.
Expected Powertrain Options:
- Single Motor (RWD)
- Dual Motor (AWD) – higher variants
The AWD setup could deliver up to ~390 hp and 500+ Nm torque, enabling strong performance with a 0–100 km/h time under 7 seconds.
Battery, Range & Charging
Tata is expected to offer two battery pack options:
- 65 kWh battery – ~500 km range
- 75 kWh battery – ~600 km range (claimed)
Due to its larger size and weight, real-world range may be slightly lower than the Harrier EV.
Charging Capabilities:
- Fast charging up to 100–120 kW
- Support for V2L (Vehicle-to-Load)
- V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging
Ride & Suspension Upgrades
A key upgrade in the Safari EV will be the multi-link rear suspension with Frequency Dependent Dampers (FDD), replacing the standard torsion beam setup.
This is expected to deliver:
- Better ride comfort
- Improved stability
- Premium driving dynamics
Features & Technology
The Safari EV is expected to be loaded with advanced features powered by Tata’s TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer):
- Over-the-air (OTA) updates
- 540-degree camera system
- Level 2 ADAS
- Auto Park Assist & Summon Mode
- In-car payments (DrivePay / FASTag / charging)
- Transparent chassis view
These features aim to enhance both convenience and safety, making it one of the most tech-loaded SUVs in the segment.
Design & Interior
Design changes will be subtle yet EV-specific:
- Closed-off front grille
- Aerodynamic alloy wheels
- Redesigned bumpers
- EV-specific styling accents
Inside, the layout will remain largely similar to the ICE Safari, with upgrades focused on software, UI and tech features rather than major structural changes.
Seating Options:
- 7-seater configuration
- Premium 6-seater (captain seats) option
Expected Price
The Tata Safari EV is expected to be priced between:
₹22.5 lakh to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom)
This positions it as a premium electric SUV in India.
Rivals
The Safari EV will primarily compete with:
- Mahindra XEV 9S
It may also indirectly rival upcoming premium EV SUVs in the ₹25–30 lakh segment.
